Pastor Mort |
Pastor Mort, who is the father of Pastor Jerry, was born and raised as an Orthodox Jew. In the midst of a family crisis he found Jesus on February 29, 1952 and accepted Him as Lord and Savior. The Lord delivered the Lynns from the crisis and proceeded to bless them mightily. He started Calvary Chapel of Albany on July 3, 1983, with his wife, Verna, and son Jerry. After much prayer and Bible study, aided by the teaching of Pastor Chuck Smith, of Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa, CA, he was ordained by Pastor Chuck on August 15, 1987. The church became known as Reach Out Fellowship in 1996. In his secular life, Mort served in World War II as the Sergeant-Major of the 350th Infantry Regiment. As a lawyer in private practice for many years, he represented interests as diverse as major banks and financial institutions, and manufacturers such as General Electric, Ford Motor, the NAACP, the Albany Inter-Racial Council, and the Interdenominational Ministers Association of Albany. As a Judge, Mort served on the bench for over twenty-seven years. In the religious sector, he served the Interdenominational Ministers as Secretary for eight, years, as President of the Capital Area Council of Churches for two years, and was on its Board of Directors for many years. He was on the Board of Directors of the Albany Committee when Billy Graham held a crusade in Albany, as well as Chairman of its Advisory Committee. Upon retiring from his Judgeship, Pastor Mort joined the church staff full time on June 1, 2000 as Associate Pastor. |
